As isolation restrictions begin to relax for some, it’s time to think about returning to normality, and re-establishing some kind of a healthy routine.
Remember, the JSHealth philosophy is all about balance and kindness. I want to help you live a sustainable healthy life, rather than encouraging a strict diet to help you get back to the healthiest version of yourself! The JSHealth way will allow you to stay on track – not just jump onboard a fad diet, only to fail within the week, and condemn yourself to unhealthy habits!
So here are my top five tips to help you get back into the swing of your healthy lifestyle!
Don’t stress, I’m not saying you need to meal prep all your meals for the week! That can get boring very quickly, and can also seem like a huge effort!
Instead, focus on packing healthy snacks to carry with you throughout the day. Think things like fruit, chopped vegetable sticks with hummus, or boiled eggs. These things require minimal preparation, but will keep you satiated, and stabilise your blood sugar levels – meaning you’ll be less likely to reach for sugary, less healthy options you might have become accustomed to over the holidays…
Also, stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as lean proteins and healthy fats. Keeping these items in your kitchen means you’re much more likely to choose healthy alternatives, and cook for yourself – you have everything you need right in front of you! If these items aren’t readily available, it becomes all too easy to reach for the less nutritious packaged options!
2. Move your body in a way that feels good
Exercise is so helpful for getting back on track! I know I always feel so much better about myself, and more motivated to eat healthily when I’ve been exercising! After all healthy food fuels your performance, and your body!
Make sure you’re moving in a way that feels good for you. Whether that’s yoga, walking, HIIT, bootcamp, boxing…whatever! As long as it’s something you enjoy, you’ll be able to incorporate it into your weekly routine, and it won’t be something you see as a chore!
Remember, you don’t have to push yourself to exhaustion, or spend hours in the gym each day – I genuinely believe just 20 minutes a day is all you need to get your body moving, allow your endorphins to start flowing, and begin feeling your best again!
3. Drink more water!
This is such a simple thing to do to improve your health immensely! Carry a bottle with you at all times, and make sure you’re drinking throughout the day.
Water not only improves your metabolism, but also helps to flush out toxins from the body. (Cough…those extra wines you had in iso!). And did you know, often we mistake dehydration as hunger, so staying hydrated throughout the day will ensure you’re eating when you’re actually hungry! Get sipping!
4. Find balance – don’t adopt the ‘all or nothing’ mentality.
For many of us, after a period of unhealthy eating, or even bingeing, we turn to restriction and deprivation, cutting out entire foods or food groups such as sugar or carbs. I’ve been there, I feel you angels!
However, try to avoid this ‘all or nothing’ mentality. Instead, indulge a couple of times each week, allowing yourself to eat the treats you’re craving. This means you won’t feel restricted, and are less likely to binge later on all the foods you’re missing!
Health is a balancing act. You don’t need to cut out every fun food to see results, or feel your best again! Indulge moderately and mindfully!
5. Eat the JSHealth way.
The JSHealth philosophy is all about balance! I believe in enjoying all foods in moderation, including all the key food groups: carbs, fats, protein and fibre. Also, cook as much as you can – so you’re in control of what is going into your meals, and you can focus on foods which make you feel incredible!
